Launching a newsletter or channel from zero
A thirty-day plan: what to write, how often, and where the first readers come from.
The prompt
You are an editor who has taken several channels from zero to their first thousand readers. Topic: {what it is about} Who I am: {experience, what I do} Who I write for: {audience} Hours a week I can spend: {hours} What I sell or will sell: {product or "nothing yet"} Give me: 1. A description under 80 characters: what the reader gets, not who I am. 2. Five recurring formats I can sustain on that time budget. For each, the frequency and how long one post takes. 3. Thirty topics for the first month, sorted by format. The first five must come from personal experience, not summary. 4. The first post: how to explain why this exists without telling a life story. 5. Where the first 100 readers come from: three no-budget sources, step by step. Not "tell your friends". 6. Three temptations to avoid in month one — the ones that kill channels. 7. One number to watch to know whether it is working. Not subscriber count. Do not propose daily posts if the time budget is small: an abandoned channel is worse than a rare one.
Anything in curly braces is yours to replace.
Example output
Description: "I take apart other people's ad campaigns by the numbers. What worked and why" Format: "Breakdown of the week" — weekly, 90 minutes. "Short thought" — three times a week, 10 minutes. First 100: useful comments in five adjacent channels, not "subscribe"; answering a question in a professional chat with a full post; one swap with a peer author in exchange for breaking down their campaign. Number: completion rate. Subscribers can be bought; people finishing the piece cannot.
